Stone Care & Maintenance

Ensure that you clean stone surfaces regularly with water and mild detergent using a soft cloth or sponge. Rinse off surfaces with clean water and polish dry with a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaning materials such as scouring powders/pads, steel wool and metal brushes etc.

Never use bleach and other chlorine based cleaners, acids, alkalis (caustic soda) and concentrated disinfectants on stone surfaces. Do not allow surface deposits such as powder detergents and salts to build up. If any of these substances come into contact with the stone, clean them off immediately, otherwise surface damage may occur.

We recommend that all marble and limestone worktops and vanity tops are re-treated with a stone sealer every two years to protect against staining and maintain the gloss finish.

Strongly coloured foodstuffs, such as blackcurrant and beetroot, can stain stone surfaces. Acidic foodstuffs such as citrus juice, vinegars, wines and cola may etch the stone surface. Any spills should be wiped clean immediately to prevent the possibility of staining.

Always use pan stands to protect stone surfaces from hot, rough and wet pots, pans and utensils. Direct contact from iron, steel, ceramic and copper vessels can scratch and stain the stone surfaces.

Over time, stone worktops will acquire a patina that reflects the use to which they have been put. It is normal for the original high sheen to weather in this way and characteristic for stone worktops to mellow with the passage of time.
